Lesson 24. Using Lists and Multiple Casts > Creating a New External Cast

Creating a New External Cast

For this lesson, imagine that you're one of many team members working on an electronic catalog of fruits and vegetables. The project leader assigns you to create a section on peppers, and this section contains three "pages" (this lesson refers to pages instead of screens): one each for fresh peppers, dried peppers, and peppercorns. Information about each of the three pepper types is stored in a separate cast. You will first set up a flexible cast structure by moving the movie's existing assets into a new external cast and then linking another, existing cast to the movie.

In this task, you will create a new, external cast to hold all assets that will be common to every page of the catalog. Placing these assets in an external cast enables you to update the content of the movie just by updating the cast, without re-creating the projector (you will see this demonstrated later in the lesson).
