Lesson 24. Using Lists and Multiple Casts > Using Lingo to Switch Casts

Using Lingo to Switch Casts

As the playback head encounters a sprite in the score, the sprite's properties tell Director which cast member the sprite represents, where to display the sprite on the stage, and so on. One of those sprite properties is the cast where the cast member is stored—for example, the Internal cast or, as in this project, the Main or FreshPpr external cast.

Each cast is identified by a number that corresponds to the order in which the cast is listed in the Movie Casts dialog box (Modify > Movie > Cast). As you saw in a previous task, the FreshPpr cast is cast 3; it appears third in the list in the Movie Casts dialog box. To switch casts, all you need to do is tell Director that cast 3 should be some other file. You can do this using the property castlib(whichCast).filename, where whichCast is the number or name of the cast. (The keyword castlib stands for cast library, which is another term for cast. The tasks in this lesson only use the term cast, not cast library, but the meaning is the same. The correct Lingo term, however, is castlib.)
