On Your Own

Put your Fine Dining application completely on the Web! Here's an overview of how to do it.

1.
Create a folder called Shocker in your Projects folder. In this folder, place a copy of the Menu.dir file from the Complete folder in the Lesson19 folder and a copy of the Order.dir file from the Complete folder in the Lesson27 folder.

2.
In Menu.dir, open the script in cast member 50, which looks like this:

on mouseUp
  go to movie "Order.dir"
end

3.
Change the script as shown here in bold:

on mouseUp
  gotoNetMovie "Order.dcr"
end

4.
In the Order.dir movie, open the frame script for frame 23 and change this script as shown here in bold:

on exitFrame
  gotoNetMovie "Menu.dcr"
end

5.
Save Menu.dir as a Shockwave movie called Menu.dcr and save Order.dir as a Shockwave movie called Order.dcr. Drag Menu.dcr and drop it on your Web browser.

You see the menu for the Fine Dining application, working just as it did before but now playing inside a Web browser.

6.
Click the Orders button.

You will see that the gotoNetMovie command is similar to go to movie, except that the movie you go to continues to play inside the Web browser, displacing the movie that was originally playing in the browser.

You can also experiment with some of the other commands that Lingo offers for working with movies that interact with the Internet. For instance, try using the preloadNetThing command, which resembles the preload command you used in Lesson 22. This command loads a file from the Internet into your Web browser's memory so the file can be displayed later without delay.

Consult the Learning Lingo manual for Director 8 and the online help for more information.
