Lesson 27. Using Lingo on the Web > Using the Timer to Reset Status Messages

Using the Timer to Reset Status Messages

Your movie can't detect whether users successfully used their Web browsers to place an order, but you can still update the "Launching your Web browser…" message in the Status field by resetting the message back to "Waiting…" after a delay of a few seconds.

The delay serves two purposes. If nothing happens when users click the Order Now button—that is, if the Web browser doesn't launch—at least the reappearance of the "Waiting…" message will be a sign to them that, even though the Web browser isn't going to launch, at least the Director movie hasn't frozen and they can perform other tasks or even try clicking Order Now again. If the browser does launch, the status message will also be reset to "Waiting…" once the user returns to your movie. The mechanism you set up for the message delay will also be of use in a later task, where more detailed feedback can be provided.
