Lesson 26. Using a List Database > Adding a Background Sound

Adding a Background Sound

The functionality for the movie is complete, but you can add one final element to make this electronic photo album more exciting: a background soundtrack that will play while the images are displayed. You'll do that now by playing a sound, just as you did in Lesson 22. Remember that the playback head is looping on frame 18, removing the control of the sprites from the score and giving it to Lingo. This means you need to control the sound with Lingo as well.

1.
In the Cast window, select cast member 38, Wlkabout.aif. Click the Cast Member Properties button.

This is the sound you will use for the movie.

2.
Loop the sound in the cast. Check the Loop box in the Property Inspector.

With the Loop box checked, the sound will continue to play while the movie runs.

Next you will alter the startMovie script in cast member 22.

3.
Double-click cast member 22, the movie script, and make the changes shown here in bold:

on StartMovie --At the start of the movie, do the following:
CreateLocationList --Run this handler to create the location list.
gCurrentView = "vict.n" --Set the northern view of Victoria as the default.
 sound(1).play (member("Wlkabout.aif"))
							--Play this sound.
end

4.
Rewind and play the movie.

The music plays immediately.

5.
Save your work.

Now the movie is complete!
