Lesson 12. Sprite Properties and Palettes > Setting Cast and Sprite Preferences

Setting Cast and Sprite Preferences

When you drag a cast member into the score or onto the stage, Director is preset to create a sprite that spans 28 frames of the score. This 28-frame duration was chosen as a good starting point, but as you've seen in previous lessons, you frequently need to change the sprite's duration to fit the needs of the individual project. For this project, you will create a series of static screens; that is, there will be no animation. In projects such as these, the duration you choose for a sprite is largely a matter of convenience. A good rule of thumb is to choose a duration that is long enough to allow you to see the names of the cast members in the Score window.

In this task, you will set up Director to show the names of cast members in the score and then set up a new default duration that better suits this project. As you will see while you work through the rest of the tasks in this lesson, these preferences will speed up your work (because you won't have to adjust the length of sprites in the score) and will make it easier for you to see what's going on in the score.
