Lesson 15. Shockwave for Director > Preparing a Movie for Streaming Shockwave

Preparing a Movie for Streaming Shockwave

Streaming movies provide a much more satisfying experience to users, so long as the movie is prepared to stream properly. When streaming a movie from the Internet or over an intranet, Shockwave first downloads all the score data as well as scripts, shapes, and the size of each cast member's bounding rectangle to determine the size of the cast members included in the movie. Shockwave then downloads cast members in the order they appear in the score. When all the cast members needed to start the movie have arrived, the movie begins playing.

While the movie plays on the user's screen, Shockwave continues to download cast members. If the movie jumps ahead in the score, a cast member might not be available yet. If cast members are not available, the movie will ignore them or display a placeholder where they should appear, depending on how you set the streaming options for the movie before you shock it. In the next task, you'll prepare a movie for streaming playback so cast members will appear as they should on the stage when the movie is streamed to a user's computer.
