Lesson 30. Monitoring Director > Logging Messages to a File

Logging Messages to a File

Whether your movie is a large multimedia extravaganza, a small Shockwave program, or a commercial presentation, if a user ever complains that it did not function properly, you will need a way to find out what the movie was doing and what information the user may have entered.

One approach is to create a log file where Director can store information about your movie as it runs. Since log files take up space on the user's hard drive and also cause a short delay in the movie while the information is written, you should use them judiciously. When used properly, however, a log file can be an invaluable diagnostic tool. In this task, you will learn how to create a log file.
