Lesson 7. keyframes and layers > Creating a Custom Stage

Creating a Custom Stage

First you will set a custom stage size by using the Property Inspector. This stage size is smaller than the one Director uses by default. Movies with smaller stage sizes are best for creating Shockwave movies. To speed up downloading over the Web, you want to keep the size of your movie small, and a smaller stage helps create a smaller file.

1.
Choose File > New > Movie to open a new movie (Windows Ctrl+N, Macintosh Command+N).

An empty stage appears.

2.
Choose Modify > Movie > Properties to open the Property Inspector. In the stage size boxes, set the dimensions to 304by 230.

The stage dimensions are listed as width by height. When you click the stage, the Stage window should show the new custom-sized stage of 304 by 230 pixels.

3.
Save your work (Windows Ctrl+S, Macintosh Command+S) as Paper.dir in your Projects folder.
