Lesson 23. Keyboard Control > Determining Key Codes

Determining Key Codes

The sketch toy you will develop in this lesson is designed to let the user create drawings using the arrow keys on the keyboard. To accept input from the keyboard, Director needs some way to understand, through Lingo, what key is being pressed. To solve that problem, Lingo uses key codes, which are unique numeric values assigned to each key.

This task shows you a special Director movie, Keyinput.dir, that you can use to determine the code for any key on the keyboard. Keyinput.dir is located in the Start folder within the Lesson23 folder.
