Lesson 17. Handlers And Events > Parameters and Return Values

Parameters and Return Values

Handlers can return values to the caller. That is, they can perform an action and return information, as if to say, "and the result was…." Most of the handlers for Director events do not need to return values to Director. If they did, Director would just ignore the return values anyway. However, you will often find it useful to write handlers that return values to you.

In this next task, you will write a handler to encrypt a string of characters. The encryption technique will be simple: You will just shift each letter up or down a certain number of characters in the alphabet. You will need to pass in the string to encrypt (a parameter) and get an encrypted string back (the return value).
