Lesson 14. Fonts and Menus > Creating Custom Menus

Creating Custom Menus

Your movie can now be considered complete in that all of its parts are consistent and functional—you can run the movie, navigate back and forth through the movie, and exit when you are through. More art work could certainly be added to make the movie more interesting, but that is just more of what you have already done and would basically be just cut-and-paste for you. In terms of navigation, however, there is an additional feature you can include that will make the movie conform better to what computer users expect. You can add custom menus to allow the user to navigate through the movie by choosing menu items to get to specific locations. While you are at it, you can also throw in some common keyboard shortcuts.

Creating menus in Director is not difficult, though it can be a little tedious if you have a large number of menu items. The process consists of two parts: creating a field cast member containing the information for the menu, and telling the movie to apply the field as a menu.
