Lesson 1. Director Basics > Using The Control Panel

Using The Control Panel

You can use the control panel to play, stop, and rewind movies. In this task, you will play the movie in the Complete folder provided in the Lesson01 folder to see how the control panel works.

1.
If the control panel is not visible, choose Window > Control Panel to open the control panel (Windows Ctrl+2, Macintosh Command+2).

The control panel provides buttons like those on a VCR for controlling a movie. The other buttons let you control the way the movie plays. You will learn to use these controls later in this book.

2.
Choose File > Open and use the Open dialog box to locate the Lesson01 folder. Then select Artist.dir to open it. (In the Open window, this is Lessons\Lesson01\Complete\Artist.dir.)

You see the first frame of the movie on the stage.

3.
Use the buttons on the control panel to rewind the movie, play it, and stop it.

This movie is the beginning of the speaker's presentation that you will start creating in this lesson and then complete in Lesson 2.

4.
Choose Window > Control Panel to close the control panel (Windows Ctrl+2, Macintosh Command+2).

Because three of the most important control buttons—Rewind, Stop, and Play—are duplicated on the toolbar, you can use the toolbar to play the movie you create in this lesson. Closing the control panel gives you more work space on the screen. When you need to use the control panel again, the instructions in this book will direct you to open it.
