Lesson 25. Databases and Lists > Using a Field Cast Member

Using a Field Cast Member

Database programs are designed to make it easy to enter, sort, and retrieve information. They do this by using fields to hold each type of information. In a mailing list database, for example, you may have fields for first name, last name, street address, city, state, and zip code. Because each type of information is saved as a separate piece of data, each element can be dealt with individually.

Every database program has its own way of storing information, but most can save information in a common format called comma-delimited text, which saves database information in a plain text file with fields separated by commas. When you create a list database in a Director movie, you will use this format. In this task, you will quickly create a small database file for use in this project.
