On Your Own

You can build large and elaborate documents with hypertext that your users can navigate with ease. Thanks to the hyperlink feature of Director, you can display hyperlinks even in scrolling text. To work on your own, try using hyperlinks to build an interactive story in which the user can decide what page to go to next (with different story results on different pages).

If you're feeling particularly ambitious and want a technical challenge, you can use the Lingo list variable type that was introduced in Lessons 24 and 25 to build a list to keep track of your last link, similar to a Back button on a browser. You will need to add each page to the list when you go to the page and to reference and remove it from the end of the list when you want to go back. In effect, you will need to build a stack of page locations, similar to a stack of plates, and then you will remove items from the top of the stack when you want to work backward.
