Lesson 29. Creating Hypertext > Assigning a Hyperlink

Assigning a Hyperlink

Now that the basic structure of the movie is assembled, you can add some text and create hyperlinks. Text can be edited in Director's Text window; hyperlinks are assigned by selecting text and specifying the link information using the Text Inspector. A hyperlink is not a command in itself; rather, it is a parameter that is passed to an on hyperlinkClicked handler that you create in your movie.

The on hyperlinkClicked handler can reside anywhere; it follows the usual sprite, cast, frame, movie event distribution hierarchy as discussed in Lessons 16 and 17, but usually you'll want to attach it to the text cast member's script itself, so that the handler and its instructions stay with the cast. The other likely place for this handler is in a movie script.
