On Your Own

You may think that the new speed for the arm movement is too fast, and that the previous speed was better. Determine the speed that you think is best and adjust the number of pixels the arm moves accordingly. The actual movement will be determined by the speed of the computer that the movie is running on. There are methods, though they are not covered in this lesson, for determining the computer's speed and for modifying the speed to fit the computer. One method would be to test the computer's speed and adjust the number of pixels moved. Another method would be to insert code for a timer and move the arm only so often—that would make the movie completely independent of the host computer. Yet a third method would be to supply users with a velocity button and let them determine the speed for themselves.
