Lesson 2. Animated Bullet Lists

Lesson 2. Animated Bullet Lists

Animation is the core of Director's power. Director lets you create animations in many ways, but one of the simplest is by using keyframes. To use a keyframe, you select a frame within a sprite where you want the sprite to appear different in size or position or in some other way. Then you use the Insert > Keyframe command and make the change to the sprite as it appears on the stage in that keyframe.

Figure . The speaker's presentation you began in the last lesson can be enriched with another popular effect: a bullet list in which the bullet points animate onto the stage as the speaker makes each point.

A simple way to show movement is to set up a start position and an end position for a sprite and let Director take care of the movement in between. You accomplish this by inserting a keyframe in the sprite and moving the sprite to the new location. The new location you select should be a place on the stage where you want the sprite to appear in the frame you identify as a keyframe. For instance, to show a fish swimming across the stage, you might position the fish at the left side of the stage in the start frame of the sprite and then insert a keyframe in the end frame of the sprite and move the fish sprite to the far right side of the stage. Director will automatically supply the positions for the sprite in all the frames in between the start and end positions. In this lesson, you'll use this method to create a simple bullet list that slides onto the stage, one bullet at a time, to support a speaker's presentation. You will also learn about a few new tools for creating and positioning sprites.
