Lesson 11. Alpha Channels and Masks > Using Masks in Director

Using Masks in Director

Director 8 supports the Mask ink, which allows you to associate an 8-bit blending mask with a bitmap. When a sprite is drawn on the screen, the pixels in the mask bitmap determine how the corresponding pixels in the image bitmap will be shown. This is completely analagous to using an alpha channel, but both the bitmapped image and the mask can be created as 8-bit cast members—a substantial saving for complicated images if download time is critical.

Your first task is to create the basic animation effect, without inks.
