Chapter 15. Using Xtras > ActiveX Controls (Windows)

ActiveX Controls (Windows)

Director for Windows allows you to incorporate ActiveX controls into your movies as sprites. ActiveX controls, much like Xtras, can extend the functionality of Director in many ways. You can install the Microsoft Web Browser control (available with Internet Explorer 3.0 or later) to allow your users to browse the Internet from within a movie, for example.

To add an ActiveX control to a movie (Windows):

1.
Make sure that any ActiveX controls you want to include in a movie are installed on your system.

2.
Choose Insert > Control > ActiveX.

The Select ActiveX Control dialog box opens.

3.
Choose an ActiveX control (Figure 15.24).

4.
Click OK.

5.
Use the Select ActiveX Control dialog box to view and edit information about the control's properties, methods, and events (Figure 15.25).

6.
Click OK to add the ActiveX control to the active Cast window (Figure 15.26).

7.
Drag the ActiveX control from the Cast window to the score or to the stage, where it can be resized and positioned like a sprite Xtra.
