Onion Skinning

Onionskinning allows you to create a new cast member in the Paint window while viewing one or more existing cast members as reference images. The reference images appear dimmed in the background, as though you had tracing paper over them (hence the name of the technique, after a form of lightweight tracing paper once used by animators). You draw on top of the reference images, tracing the parts of their features that you need for the new cast member. The cast members used as references are not altered in the process.

Onion skinning comes in very handy when you create sequences of closely related cast members, which would be hard to generate precisely without the reference images.
