Editing Video

Although complex video editing tasks require a specialized program, you can perform very simple tasks, such as reordering a sequence of frames, within Director. Such editing is restricted to the QuickTime window.

To copy and paste digital video frames:

1.
Choose Window > QuickTime to open the QuickTime window

2.
Use the Previous and Next cast member buttons to display a particular digital video cast member (Figure 10.24).

3.
Drag the slider at the bottom of the window to move to the section you want to copy.

If you want to select a range of frames, hold down the Shift key and drag the slider until you reach the last frame you want to select. The portion of the slider that corresponds to the multiple-frame selection turns black (Figure 10.25).

or

If you want to select only one frame, when you reach that video frame, you have effectively selected it.

4.
Choose Edit > Copy or Edit > Cut.

Keep in mind that cutting changes the linked video file.

5.
In the QuickTime window, use the Previous and Next cast member buttons to display the digital video cast member where you plan to paste.

or

Click the New Cast member button to make the video insert a new cast member.

6.
Using the slider, display the frame in the video window that precedes the spot where you want to paste the video insert (assuming that you're not creating a new video cast member) (Figure 10.26).

7.
Choose Edit > Paste.

If you are pasting into a new digital video, Director prompts you to name the new linked cast-member file.

8.
Play the video and make any necessary adjustments.
