Part: VIII SEARCHING THE WORLD > INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION

Chapter 26. INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION

Back in Chapter 16, “Finding Local Information on the Web,” we covered some ways to get international information. In this chapter we're going to look at other ways to get international information, including search engines' offerings, specialty directories and where to find them, and translation tools when your interests and the available languages just don't intersect.

TIP

If you really want to limit your search results, try searching for documents in one country and limiting your results to a language that's not in that country. (search Japanese Web sites for documents in Spanish, for example). In the cases where that kind of search has relevance—you're looking for information on Spain's exports to Japan—doing a cross-language/ country search can work wonders for narrowing results. Of course, if you don't speak Spanish you have an additional problem, but we'll discuss that later in this chapter.
