Search Toolbars

Search toolbars are compatible mostly with Internet Explorer, though I will mention some here that work with other browsers or that are platform independent. Search toolbars integrate with your browser and allow you to search particular resources from your browser without having to visit a Web site. They'll give you other information, too—Google's toolbar, for example, allows you to see the “Page Rank” of a page, giving you an indication of how popular it is. (Page Rank is calculated by Google and has some impact on the ranking of a page within Google's search results. Google's not talking about exactly how this works.)

As you might expect, Google's popularity means that there are many versions of its search available via a toolbar. There are toolbars for other search engines available as well.
