Chapter 14. NEWS SEARCHING > Other Places to Search News

Other Places to Search News

I've listed some of the major news search aggregates above, but they're not the only ones. Some sites, such as CNN and News.com, have their own internal search engines that cover a lot of ground. If you're looking for very old news, some libraries have digitized old newspaper collections. The Brooklyn Public Library's Brooklyn Eagle collection, at http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/eagle/index.htm, is an excellent example. Check out http://www.researchbuzz.org/archives/cat_publicationsarchives.shtml for a roundup of pointers to publication archives, http://www.ibiblio.org/slanews/internet/intarchives.htm for pointers to newspaper archives online, or http://dir.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/ for pointers to publications and sometimes publication archives.

When you're looking for a news overview, news search engines should be the first place you go. But you may find that all of your research is leading you to the same sources over and over. In that case, you should see if those sources have their own archive search engines, because those engines usually have deeper archives than the 30 days of many news search engines.
