Translation Tools

Before we get into translation tools I have to tell you one thing: translation tools usually aren't very good. A translation tool is for a gist, not for a deep meaning. And if there's a sense of humor or an overload of idioms in what you're trying to translate, forget it—it'll be a mess. That having been said, when you just want to get an idea of what someone is saying, translation tools are great. There are two I really like, one from Google and one from AltaVista.

Google's language tools allow for quick translation of either pages or chunks of text. While the translations are fast and I've found them useful, the number of languages available for translation is limited. If you want a wider variety of languages to translate, including Chinese and Korean, use Babelfish.
