Chapter 22. CONSUMER HELP > Watch Your Step

Watch Your Step

I really, really wish I could tell you that every single transaction in which you engage will be perfect, and that you will love all the merchandise you order and all the merchants you deal with. I wish I could say that, but I can't. I can say, though, that if you use your common sense and the resources included in this chapter, you can reduce your chances of getting burned.

TIP

Sometimes, if the merchant is large enough, you'll find entire Web sites devoted to someone's dislike of them. (To use the vernacular, these are called “sucks sites.”) You can get a list of these kinds of sites at http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Issues_and_Causes/Consumer_Advocacy_and_Information/Consumer_Opinion/Individual_Companies/. Are these kinds of sites worthwhile? While I'm sure that they help relieve some emotional stress, and while they might get attention for the person who took the time to put the site together, they probably won't be very useful to you.
