Chapter 7. web gems > making money from your site

making money from your site

One word: affiliate. Being an affiliate on the Web means that you deliver customers to a merchant, through the use of image links that you create with the Web Gems in this category. If those customers buy something from the merchant after clicking on the link on your Web site, you make a commission on the sale. Pretty simple concept. Basically, you become a salesperson by merely adding a link on your site. For example, you might review a book you read and add a link to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. If someone bought the book after reading your review and clicking the link, you'd make a commission.

Unfortunately, as this book is going to press, the company Tradesafe, whose Web Gem enabled you to take credit card orders safely over the Web, has undergone a change of focus. Tradesafe no longer supports new accounts, which means you can't use this Web Gem. Trellix is actively seeking a new partner in this exciting area of Internet commerce. Check the Trellix Web site for news on a new credit card Web Gem.
