Troubleshooting

Running a professional Web site is not for everyone. Ideally, your site should be examined on a regular basis (at least once and day) and checked for broken links, outdated information, and potential damage from outside hackers or crackers. A good site is also a living site, one that provides new information to users on every visit—which means that you need to be constantly adding and changing the content on your site’s home page. It’s a lot of work, if you do it right.

Some of this work can be automated. There are software utilities you can use to check dead links and monitor your site’s performance. Some Web site hosts offer their versions of these utilities as part of your hosting package; you can also obtain these utilities elsewhere on the Web, for use on any site.
