Chapter 34. Online Music > MP3 Software

MP3 Software

Just as you need a CD player to play your compact discs, you need an MP3 player to play MP3 files. If you’re playing MP3 files on your computer, the MP3 program is a software program; if you’re playing MP3 files elsewhere, you need dedicated MP3 player hardware (discussed later in this chapter).

If you’re more interested in making your own MP3 files, you’ll need an encoder program. Many encoder programs are also CD rippers, which work in the other direction and decode MP3 files into WAV files and record them on CD-R discs.
