Chapter 22. Online Auctions > Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

When you win an auction at a person-to-person auction site, you’re dealing with an individual seller, not with the auction site itself. That means, technically, that if something goes wrong with the transaction—if you don’t get the merchandise you paid for, or if it’s not in the condition promised—that it’s the seller who is responsible, not the auction site.

That said, most major auction sites offer a degree of protection and insurance to their users. In eBay’s case, the SafeHarbor program insures most of your transactions up to $200 (with a $25 deductible). This insurance is free to all members in good standing.
