Chapter 2. Making the Broadband Connection > Broadband Wireless Access

Broadband Wireless Access

Like satellite broadband, broadband wireless access (BWA) enables you to connect to the Internet without the need for hard-wired DSL or cable connections. Unlike satellite broadband (which can beam almost anywhere in the United States), BWA requires you to be within 35 miles of a transmitting tower connect.

Like most other broadband technologies, wireless broadband is an “always on” connection. Typical connection speeds range between 512Kbps and 1.5Mbps downstream, with upstream speed in the neighborhood of 256Kbps.
