High-Speed Options

Even the best dial-up connection to the Internet can be maddeningly slow—especially as more and more Web sites add more and larger graphics and multimedia files. Every single item on a Web page must be downloaded to your computer before you can view it, and a 56.6Kbps pipeline just isn’t big enough to download everything instantaneously.

The result, of course, is that it takes a looooong time to access some Web pages—and even longer to download large files or receive e-mails with large attachments. So you click and wait, and wait, and wait, until the last bit of data finally makes its way through your modem onto your screen or hard disk, thinking all the time that there must be a better way.
