Chapter 14. Instant Messaging > Windows Messenger

Windows Messenger

The latest— and greatest—instant messaging program is one available exclusively with Microsoft’s new Windows XP operating system. The new Windows Messenger program is like a souped-up version of MSN Messenger, combined with an easier-to-use version of the Microsoft NetMeeting videoconferencing software. Windows Messenger not only lets you send instant messages to other users, it also lets you conduct telephone conversations online and engage in Internet videoconferences.

If you have Windows XP installed on your system, you have a copy of Windows Messenger. Because the program was still in beta testing as this book was written, we can’t include detailed operating instructions here. Windows Messenger holds great promise, however, so you should definitely check it out if you’re a Windows XP user.
