Chapter 7. Family-Safe Browsing > Content Filtering with Internet Explorer

Content Filtering with Internet Explorer

You don’t have to switch to a kid-safe browser to get built-in content filtering. Internet Explorer includes the Content Advisor, which can be used to block access to sites that meet specified criteria. Content Advisor enables you to set your own tolerance levels for various types of potentially offensive content, and then blocks access to sites that don’t pass muster.

Note

To filter out offensive sites, both browsers utilize the Platform for Internet Content Selection (PICS) filtering system designed and maintained by the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), formerly known as the Recreational Software Advisory Council (RSAC). For more information about PICS without all the acronyms, go to the ICRA Web site, at www.icra.org.
