Web-Based E-mail Services

HTTP e-mail is easier to set up than POP e-mail, and it can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet, using any Web browser. All you need to know is your user ID and password, and then you access a page that lets you view the contents of your inbox, read and reply to messages, create new messages, and (in many cases) store messages in folders. You can even, on some services, use your Web-based e-mail account to access your ISP’s POP e-mail.

The two largest Web e-mail services are Microsoft’s Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail. We’ll look at these two services in detail, next.
