Troubleshooting

When you’re having trouble connecting to the Internet, the problem can fall into one of seven general areas:

  • Your phone line.

  • The cable between your phone line and your modem—or (if you have an external modem) between your modem and your PC.

  • Your modem.

  • The port that your modem is connected to.

  • The configuration settings for your modem and for your ISP account.

  • Your ISP.

  • The Internet itself.
