Troubleshooting

Before you post any pages you create to a Web site, you should test those pages in your own Web browser. If everything displays correctly, you’re ready to go live; if something looks out of whack, however, then it’s time to troubleshoot your code.

The most common cause of HTML problems is mismatching code—typically not including the “off” tag for a particular effect. For example, entering the <b> tag but forgetting to add the </b> tag will display all the remaining text in your document as boldface. Some HTML editors let you highlight matching pairs to look for mismatches; in any case, go through your code listing and be sure you have “off” tags for all your “ons.”
