Codes to Get Started

When you first create a new Web page, you have to insert some codes to identify the document as an HTML document. These tags are mandatory; you should get used to typing them in whenever you start to work on a new Web page.

In fact, the best way to think of these tags is as a “shell,” into which you then insert the rest of your text and other codes. For a typical document, here’s the shell you use:
