Chapter 10. Understanding Your PC Operat... > File and Directory Settings

File and Directory Settings

The file and directory properties, such as permission settings and sharing, are similar to those of Windows NT. You can configure property settings for Web Sharing, normal file sharing, and security options. Web Sharing is an option that should not be used in normal circumstances. It allows the user to share contents of the folder as part of a Web site. If the ability to share folders is required, make use of Microsoft's IIS Web server. A new feature of folder sharing is the ability to set access based on how users access the folder over the network. The security configuration options mirror those of Windows NT. Figures 10.29 and 10.30 show how you can select permissions on shared folders. To access these Properties dialog boxes, you can right-click a file or directory through Explorer.
