Part VI: Fighting Back: What to Do if Yo... > Guarding Your System Against Hacking

Chapter 16. Guarding Your System Against Hacking

The risks and solutions we have discussed throughout this book so far make the Internet such an interesting place. With viruses, hackers, crackers, marketing companies, and script kiddies on the Internet, having the ability to respond to an intrusion on your computer or home network is more important and timely than it would have been in the past. With always-on connectivity, the risk of an actual break-in to your computer has skyrocketed. A breach in security could result in stolen credit card information, destruction of personal files and data, or use of your computer in a hacking crime, among many possible dangers.

We have been through many steps for securing your systems and data. Security is just a point in time, however. Just because one day you completed a full security test of your computer and found no vulnerabilities doesn't mean that tomorrow you won't be vulnerable again.
