Chapter 12. WHAT CAN I DO IF MY PRIVACY ... > I Am Not Me: Identity Theft

I Am Not Me: Identity Theft

Other than the physical danger that can come from stalking, the most danger we can encounter in cyberspace is people using our credentials: identity theft.

Identity theft is a silent crime. You don't know it's happening to you. A thief obtains your Social Security number, your checking account number, a credit card number, and/or your driver's license. He uses that information to open a new account or changes the address on a current account and then adds charges to the accounts and does not pay the bills. It may take you some time to find out what has happened.
