E-mail and Chat Can be Information Collectors, Too

Web sites aren't the only Internet activities where you can choose to give out information, but just the places where you are most likely to be asked to fill out forms. Information can be sought using other Internet programs, too.

If you get an unsolicited e-mail asking for credit card information, along with your name, address, phone number, or any other information that could be used to defraud you, it would be wise to just delete it. It is hard to think of a good reason to send anyone this information this way. No matter how enticing the merchandise offered, there is little you can do to check out the bona fides of an unsolicited e-mail.
