Think of Your Audience

As a general rule of thumb, it’s always good to think of your audience when you blog. Blogs are very audience-specific. That means that when you write your blog, whether it’s a topic blog or an open diary to the world, it has a unique voice—yours—which appeals to a certain audience. The worst thing you can do with your blog is try to please the masses and disobey your instincts. That will get you nowhere. Be yourself, and you’re more likely to build a relationship with your readers. The same holds true when it comes time to compose your text ad; try to keep your key audience in mind.

Developing a distinctive voice with your blog is not a way to get an immediate boost in numbers; it’s a more gradual approach. If you develop a few regular readers, there’s a good chance they will spread the word about your blog through word of mouth, email, or perhaps a little publicity, if they are bloggers too. In any case, it doesn’t hurt to give yourself a bit of a boost in readership with a text ad. Your readers will be glad to have discovered you!
