Knowledge Management

The information dissemination that blogging offers and the subsequent retrieval of this information by people who need it, leads us to another blogging application: knowledge management. Knowledge management is the sharing and flow of information, usually within an organization or company. People are discovering that blogging makes knowledge management easy— especially when they think of blog posts as stories and stories as a fundamental method for understanding how things work.

The general idea behind knowledge management is to treat the cumulative knowledge of all past, present, and future employees of a company or organization as a valuable commodity. In this manner, the new guys don’t have to keep discovering things that the previous staff already found out. Part of what makes this so tricky is that knowledge isn’t always so cut and dried.
