Chapter 12. Better Blogging > Auto Text Bookmarklet

Auto Text Bookmarklet

Bookmarklets are tiny JavaScript applications that pretend to be links. They run in your browser’s URL field when you click them. Hundreds of bookmarklets are available at bookmarklets.com, and they are great (and free) little tools you can use to add functionality to your browser. There are bookmarklets for turning off banner ads, zooming in on images, changing background color, performing calculations, displaying the number of links on a page, and the list goes on. Bookmarklets are big in blogging. Blogger’s BlogThis! bookmarklet generates a pop-up blogging form when clicked, as does Xanga’s xTools bookmarklet. Most of the major weblog providers offer bookmarklet-enhanced blogging so that you can blog while you surf. Figure 12.4 shows Steve Kangas’ bookmarklets.com site.
