Creating a Distinctive Style

A good document layout does two things: It makes the material easily accessible to the reader, and it “makes your mark” by branding documents as ones you created. Although most people think about the former, they often forget the latter, and making your mark can be important.

Making your mark is creating a distinctive style for your documents. When people in your organization read a report prepared in your office, they consciously or unconsciously associate that document with you. This starts to “brand” your work. And make no mistake about it; branding is important, both internally and externally. Branding ensures that you get credit for your work and your ideas.
