Chapter 4. Organizing Your Day > Spending Time to Save Time

Spending Time to Save Time

Here’s a helpful strategy for getting rid of those piles of paper and getting yourself on track. All it requires is for you to invest a little time to save a lot of time.

The Weekly Organization

The weekly organization takes 10 to 15 minutes first thing Monday morning. After you’re finished, you’ll know exactly what you need to do for the week and stacks of extra papers and lists of other chores you won’t be doing this week anyway won’t overwhelm you. Before you do this the first time, set aside a desk drawer for all the papers you’re going to defer acting on until next week, and then create a task folder in Outlook called Deferred in which you’ll put deferred Outlook tasks. (For information about how to create a task folder, see “Placing Tasks into Folders” on page 62.) Then follow these steps.
