Part III: Creating Knowledge > Creating Knowledge Using Documents

Chapter 11. Creating Knowledge Using Documents

Tad Orman is a senior consultant with Trey Research. His responsibilities include delivering research reports for clients, and supporting the sales staff by writing the technical statements of work (SOWs) for proposals for new clients. Tad has consistently been recognized by both his manager and colleagues for the number of SOWs and research reports he produces, and for their quality as measured by percentages of accepted proposals and number of client testimonials.

Tad’s been asked to mentor some younger consultants, and to do so he’s been trying to figure out the secrets of his success. By his calculations, he spends half of his work days with Microsoft Word open at his desktop—about the same as other consultants. But as he looked how he uses Word, he realized he has developed some “best practices” he could share.
