Part III: Creating Knowledge > Creating Knowledge with People

Chapter 12. Creating Knowledge with People

Contoso Pharmaceuticals is in the process of redefining its mission statement. Their old one focused on their role in curing illness; their new one focuses on positive approaches to enhancing and maintaining health. This has created a culture change at Contoso, and Michael Emanuel has been tasked with leading a nationwide group of facilitators who are getting feedback from employees from all levels across the nation. His team met once, but probably won’t be able to afford to see each other face to face again. They have several tasks, however, that they need to do together, including the following.

  • Prepare a standard list of focus group questions to be used in all regions of the country.

  • Conduct the focus groups with a representative sampling of employees.

  • Collate results, and develop a survey to verify them.

  • Distribute the survey to every employee.

  • Based on the results, write a comprehensive summary and make recommendations to senior management on how to better communicate the new direction to the company.
